Dr. Sophie BostockBritishSophie is a Sleep Scientist on a mission: to help millions of people to improve their lives by unlocking the science of sleep and performance. For many people, sleep is still a mysterious ‘black box’ but when you understand how it works, it’s easy to take back control. Sophie has always been intrigued by what makes us feel good and function well. She studied medicine at Nottingham University, followed by an MSc in Entrepreneurship. She completed a PhD in Health Psychology at University College London (UCL), investigating why happiness protects against heart disease, and how to improve wellbeing at work. Sophie's research pointed to sleep as an unsung hero of both mental and physical resilience. She spent 5 years as Innovation Lead at Big Health, an award-winning digital medicine company, where she was awarded an NHS Innovation Accelerator Fellowship for her work. Sophie has become a passionate advocate for the importance of sleep, and evidence-based therapy. She has published academic research in collaboration with the Sleep and Circadian Neuroscience Institute in Oxford, and international researchers, demonstrating the impacts of better sleep on mental health. Sophie expertly advised on our Habits section of the Sleepiest App, informing us of the best ways to measure Sleep Health, alongside developing this exclusive How Sleep Works course.
