Sleepiest and Loóna are both apps designed to help you get to sleep. Sleepiest does this with bedtime stories, sleep sounds, sleep meditations and sleep tracking, while Loóna uses "interactive with calming activities" to try help you wind down before sleep. But which is the better approach?
Unfortunately our view is that Loóna's core experience of having you complete interactive activities on your phone right before bed is, to put it bluntly, a terrible idea at it's core...
There is considerable scientific research on the impact of staring at your phone right before sleep. Put simply; it's bad and has a really negative impact on sleep with the sleep foundation stating "We recommend avoiding computers, smartphones, and other blue light-emitting devices in the hours leading up to bedtime".
Now; to an extent looking at your phone when picking out content to fall asleep to via a sleep app is unavoidable (though here at Sleepiest we do our best to try - Sleepiest works great with Siri to make it possible to launch your favorite sleep aid content without needing to touch your phone)!
However far from trying limit the time you're looking at your phone by getting you to the best content quickly (like we do here at Sleepiest), Loóna actively encourages you to stare at your phone in order to interact with their 15 minute "interactive sleep-scape episodes". This is flies in the face of all scientific advice; and is likely to have the opposite effect in terms of getting you to sleep quickly, instead only serving to keep you awake longer.
While Loóna's core experience is their scientifically flawed sleep-scape episodes, they thankfully do also have tabs available in the app for more conventional bedtime stories and sleep music, so lets move onto comparing the bedtime story and sleep music offerings of Loóna when compared to Sleepiest.
In terms of stories; Loóna has little under 100 stories available, while Sleepiest has over 300. The quality of the content in Loóna isn't terrible, but also isn't great. There's also only 3 stories available in Loóna without requiring you to start a free trial, while Sleepiest offers over 100 bits of content entirely free without requiring any commitment.
Loóna's sleep music section is a bit better with over 100 tracks to help you drift off to sleep (and the majority are free for everyone). Sleepiest also contains hundreds of sleep soundscapes to help you drift off, but we'll admit; not quite as many of our sleep sounds are entirely free when compared to Loóna (don't get me wrong - we still offer a lot of sleep sounds for free, but almost all of Loóna's are available without starting a free trial or subscription; making this section of their app quite compelling).
Sleepiest offers a sleep sound creation tool in addition to our expertly crafted sleep sounds; which you can try out for yourself free here, or in our free to download mobile app. While Loóna doesn't include any offering for crafting a soundscape tailor made to you.
Sleepiest also offer passive sleep tracking, which allows us (with your permission) to analyze the historical movement data of your device; another feature Loóna doesn't provide, but an important one... By allowing you to passively track your sleep, and displaying this data in an accessible way; you can see how Sleepiest is tangible improving your sleep! In fact users of Sleepiest who enable our passive sleep tracking on average sleep 29 minutes more each night after having downloaded Sleepiest compared to the week before they used it.
In terms of content update frequency; here at Sleepiest we release 10 new bits of sleep inducing content every single week, many of which ware available for free including our award winning podcasts, while Loóna's update frequency seems to be 1-2 tracks a week.
In terms of price; Loóna is $39.99/yr or $12.99/mo, while Sleepiest is £49.99/yr or $9.99 a month. So Loóna is a little bit cheaper than Sleepiest if you plan to subscribe yearly, or a little more expensive than Sleepiest if you plan to go monthly. Both apps offer a 7 day free trial to let you explore their wider premium catalogues for a week for free.
Both Sleepiest and Loóna also offer free content without having to start a free trial. Overall the free offering of Sleepiest is larger with over 100+ free bedtime stories, soundscapes, podcast episodes and meditation. However Loóna does offer the majority of it's sleep music section for free.
Both Sleepiest and Loóna have has millions of downloads from people all over the world. Both apps are very highly rated by customers with the majority of people rating both apps 5 stars. Both apps have very well designed user interfaces and are a delight to use.

Loóna's core offering is it's interactive sleep-scape episodes. These encourage you to stare at your phone right before bed; flying in the face of scientific advice to limit your exposure to screens omitting blue light before bed. For this reason, it makes it a hard app to recommend over Sleepiest (or most other sleep apps) as the most likely effect it will have it to make your sleep worse, not better.
Sleepiest by comparison has a larger selection of sleep content available, releases high quality, expertly crafted content far more frequently, and most importantly is designed to try get you off your phone and listening to a bedtime story, sleep sound of meditation as quickly as possible in order to keep you away from that blue light!
Here at Sleepiest we even built in support for Apple's Siri specifically to allow you to launch content without having to stare at a screen... As much as possible we follow the data from sleep studies and sleep scientists to get you falling asleep, and staying asleep as quickly as we can.
The only section of Loóna worth considering in our view is their sleep music; they have a decent amount of free sleep music content available, and the quality of it is comparable to the soundscapes we offer here at Sleepiest.
Overall we think the offering provided by Sleepiest is far superior... We offer more content, have a more extensive catalogue of free bedtime stories, sounds and meditations which you can explore without committing to starting a free trial or subscription. Most importantly; we follow scientific advice on getting you to sleep as quickly as possible.
But why take our word for it? With so much of our sleep sounds, meditations and stories available for free you can try it for yourself without any commitment. Hopefully we can get you falling asleep effortlessly tonight?
